Frequently asked questions
What people ask us most before booking. If your question isn't here, message us and we'll answer it.
How many rooms do you have and what are they called?
We have five rooms and each one has its own name: El Atlántico, Sacuanjoche, Colibrí, El Pacífico and El Madroño. The names come from Nicaraguan things — the country's two oceans, the bird, the national flower and the national tree — and inside each one there is a painting that recalls it. You can see them on the rooms page.
What does the room include?
All of them have air conditioning, a TV, a private bathroom and Wi-Fi, with daily cleaning and breakfast included. There are no lower-tier categories: what changes between one and another is the size and how many people fit.
Which is the biggest room?
El Atlántico. It has three beds under exposed wooden beams, with a rocking chair and its own table, and it is the one families and groups ask for. Colibrí and El Madroño have a double bed and are meant for two.
How much is a night?
Rates vary by room, date and how many nights you stay, so we prefer to give them to you directly rather than publish a price that might not match later. Message us at 8382 7607 with your dates and we'll reply with the exact price.
What are check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is from 11:00 a. m. and check-out is until 10:00 a. m. the next day. If you need to arrive earlier or leave later, let us know in advance and we'll see how the house looks that day.
Until what time can I check in?
The guesthouse closes at 10:00 p. m.. If you're arriving later it can be arranged, but you need to give C$360 o US$10 to whoever is on duty, since by then they are already off for the night. Let us know ahead of time and we'll have it sorted before you arrive.
What does breakfast include and what time is it served?
A home-cooked Nicaraguan breakfast, included in the rate and served from 7:00 a. m. to 9:00 a. m., every day. If you're leaving early we'll pack it to go: just bring a container and tell us the night before. If you have any allergy or dietary restriction, tell us before you arrive and we'll sort it out.
Do you serve lunch and dinner?
Yes, although they are not included in the rate. They cost C$180 o US$5 per meal and need to be ordered by 11:00 a. m. the same day. It is home cooking, same as breakfast.
What if I don't like the dish of the day?
You can cross over to the diner next door. El Maguey is family-run — the owner's son runs it — and it's right next door. It's a buffet: you see what there is and serve yourself. Between the two kitchens there is almost always something you'll like.
Where can I have lunch nearby?
Without leaving the property. At the guesthouse we cook lunch to order if you tell us before 11:00 a. m., and next door is El Maguey, the family's diner, with a buffet lunch from 7:00 a. m. It's open Monday to Saturday; closed on Sundays.
Does the air conditioning have any condition?
Yes, and we'd rather tell you before you book. It's meant to be used at night. If you stay at the guesthouse during the day you can use it up to 2 hours at no cost; if you need more time there is a surcharge of C$180 o US$5 per day. We also ask that you only use the on/off button, since the others can throw the unit's settings off.
Can I eat in the room?
We ask that you do not. That is what the covered dining area and the terrace are for, and they are far nicer than eating sitting on the bed.
How do I book?
The fastest way is on WhatsApp at 8382 7607. You can also use the form on the homepage: pick your dates and guests, and it opens WhatsApp with the message already written. The booking is confirmed once we reply confirming dates, room and rate.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cash, in córdobas or dollars. If you need another payment method, ask us when booking and we will tell you what we can accept.
Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes, in the rooms and in the common areas, at no extra cost. Several of our guests work or study online from here. We give you the network and password at check-in.
Is there hot water?
Yes, in every shower. For safety there are usage instructions posted in the bathroom area: read them before your first shower.
Can I stay for a month?
Yes, and it is quite common: a good share of our guests are students from the nearby universities or people who came to Managua for work. The monthly rate is considerably lower than the nightly one, and includes breakfast, cleaning, water, electricity and internet. See the monthly stays page.
Where exactly is the guesthouse?
In Villa Fontana, twenty varas north of Club Terraza, house number 32, across from Panadería París. We are a few blocks from Galerías Santo Domingo, so you have a cinema, restaurants, banks, pharmacies and ATMs nearby.
How do I get there from the airport?
Augusto C. Sandino Airport is about 20 to 25 minutes by car. The practical option is an authorised taxi from the terminal, agreeing on the fare before getting in. It is explained in more detail in the Managua guide.
Is there parking?
There is space within the property, but it is limited. Let us know before you arrive if you are coming by vehicle so we can confirm there is room.
Do you accept pets?
It depends on the case. Message us before booking telling us what kind of pet and its size, and we will confirm whether we can host it.
Can I cancel or change my booking?
Yes. The conditions are on the policies page. If in doubt, the simplest thing is to message us and we will sort it out.
Is it a safe place?
Villa Fontana is a quiet residential neighbourhood and the house is in an area with a lot of foot traffic from neighbours. As in any big city, we recommend not showing valuables on the street and using trustworthy transport at night.
